Plating:
MONSEN's plating department houses 6 major tanks and 15 smaller tanks. Plating is applied by electrolysis,
the producing of chemical changes by passage of an electric current through an electrolyte. MONSEN prefers to plate heavy, and the thickness of the plate is regulated by the time, temperature and condition of the bath. The first coat of plating is called the " STRIKE" plate, which is usually a coating of copper. The second coat will be silver, brass or whatever finish the customer selects. Sometimes the piece will go through another chemical bath, which adds a patina to the surface and gives an antique appearance.
